Revolutionizing Blockchain: A Deep Dive into Celestia’s Modular System, $TIA Utility, and Airdrop Staking Guide

Intro

Celestia’s native token, $TIA, has witnessed a meteoric rise of over 200% in the past few months, crossing a remarkable $2 billion market cap. But what’s driving this excitement? Let’s delve into how Celestia is poised to transform the competitive blockchain landscape and explore the process of staking $TIA to become eligible for potential airdrops.

Modular vs Monolithic

In the blockchain realm, there are generally two types: modular and monolithic. Traditionally, most blockchains have been monolithic, where a single blockchain performs all key functions:

  1. Execution
  2. Settlement
  3. Consensus
  4. Data Availability

Prominent examples of monolithic blockchains include Bitcoin, Ethereum 1.0, and Solana.

In contrast, Celestia represents a modular approach to blockchain architecture, with a specific focus on data availability. Unlike monolithic blockchains that handle all functions in one place, modular blockchains segment these functions into distinct components. This segmentation allows for scaling by combining specialized modules for specific tasks. For example, Celestia itself doesn’t manage computation and execution; these are handled by layer 2 solutions and rollups. Celestia’s specialty lies in Consensus and Data Availability, enabling other blockchains to integrate their chosen settlement and execution layers seamlessly. This modular structure allows for vertical scaling in line with user growth. As a foundational layer, Celestia acts as a “lazy ledger,” where the data is processed by layer 2 networks, and Celestia’s role is to efficiently organize this data.

Modular architecture paves the way for a diverse blockchain ecosystem, supporting the development of tens of thousands of specialized blockchains. This approach marks a departure from the traditional model of a few primary blockchains supplemented by layer 2s or parachains. In the expanding landscape of Celestia’s ecosystem, there’s growing support for various rollups, including notable ones like Arbitrum and OP stack. Additionally, Manta Network is another example of a rollup leveraging Celestia’s innovative architectur

Data Availability

Data availability refers to how easily end users can verify the publication of data on a blockchain. This accessibility is vital for network security, as it enhances decentralization by allowing users to independently inspect and verify data on the blockchain ledger. In monolithic blockchains, end users often need to download the entire blockchain dataset to confirm the network’s integrity. Take Solana, for example: its stringent validator requirements make it challenging for the average user to verify if validators are performing their duties correctly.

Celestia introduces a novel technology known as “data availability sampling,” which revolutionizes how end users interact with blockchain data. This method enables users to download only partial data while still confirming the chain’s end state. This concept is somewhat akin to how Zero Knowledge proofs function in Ethereum, where users need to download just 1-2% of the entire chain to authenticate it. Celestia implements this through light nodes that download a minimal portion of the chain. The growing user base of Celestia plays a crucial role here: as more users download and verify different sections of the chain, it enhances the network’s integrity and scalability. Effectively, Celestia’s ability to scale is directly proportional to its user count.

$TIA Token

Celestia’s native gas token, $TIA, plays a pivotal role in network security through staking. It’s also the currency for transaction fees and data posting charges. For example, when a rollup like Manta Network wishes to post data on Celestia, they incur a gas fee payable in $TIA, akin to how Ethereum rollups pay fees in $ETH. As of now, Celestia does not have a token burning mechanism; instead, fees collected are distributed among stakers and Proof of Stake (PoS) delegators.

Celestia’s strategy for achieving sustainability hinges on economies of scale. The goal is to attract a substantial number of rollups to the platform, generating revenue through high volume usage. This approach contrasts with creating sustainability via artificial scarcity of resources and limited block space.

$TIA Airdrop Farm Guide

Staking the native token on a blockchain like Celestia can open up opportunities for future airdrops. Here’s a step-by-step guide to take you from a major Centralized Exchange (CEX) to airdrop farming on Celestia:

    1. Download a Wallet: The preferred wallet for Celestia appears to be the Keplr wallet. Get started here: Keplr Wallet | Your Interchain Gateway.
    2. Purchase and Deposit $TIA: Buy $TIA tokens on any major centralized exchange. Then, transfer them to your Celestia wallet.
    3. Stake Your $TIA: With $TIA in your wallet, it’s time to stake them to become eligible for airdrops. In your wallet, navigate to “Manage Portfolio in Keplr Dashboard”.
    4. Selecting a Validator: Choose “Celestia” as the chain, then select a validator for staking. Avoid validators from centralized exchanges or those in the top 10, as they are often excluded from airdrops. Aim for a validator with a commission rate of 5-10% to maximize your staking rewards.
    5. Final Step: Congratulations! Your $TIA is now staked and you’re set up to potentially receive ecosystem airdrops. Stay active and participate in upcoming governance proposals, as these engagements may also contribute to earning airdrops.
